Overall, I think the home birth team has done a wonderful job in the short time it has been running.
It was great being seen at home; however as a busy mum, I feel it would be best for the midwives to give a time they can stick to (one was always late, sometimes an hour late) or instead give a window of time that they will arrive in (morning, afternoon, etc.) so that the mother can arrange the rest of her day.
I don't recall being told antenatally that I would need to take my baby into hospital for the examination of the newborn, so I was surprised and disappointed to find out the day after my baby's birth. I did ask and was told no one was able to come out to do it and that it needed to be done within 48 hours of birth. I later found out that the recommendation is within 72 hours, so that would've been helpful to have known beforehand as well. I do understand that the home birth team midwives are getting certified to do this in the new year, so I anticipate this being more seamless for future mums using the service.
I appreciated the team ensuring I had met all four members of the team before my due date. I also met the supervisor of midwives for the team, and she was wonderful. In the end, when I rang triage in labour and a midwife was sent, it was not a midwife on the home birth team, which worried me initially. However, the midwife that was sent (Sofie) was exactly what I wanted and needed in a midwife, as was her second (Laura).
After a very stressful first labour and birth (not at Hillingdon) and an induced miscarriage (at Hillingdon, 17/11/2012), this was the perfect labour and birth, very healing. The first midwife even arrived precisely when I wanted/needed her. Looking back on the birth, I wouldn't change anything.
The midwifes were very caring and attentive to my "wants" (i.e water birth).
Improvements: Triage team. When I called at 4am with contractions 10 min apart. I was told to call back when they are 2-3 min apart and that it was too early for midwife to come to me. I think home birthing team should have been called to make their own decision. I had

Most of my care was provided by Suzy and it was great and very supportive.
I had issues with breastfeeding and I was given a misleading advice about using a breast pump which resulted in low levels of milk supply. I think it was assumed that because this is my second child I would know but I never "pumped" with my first. Suzy gave me a good advice, on how to increase the

Advice and reassurance given when needed.
Home visit was also arranged with Pinkwell childrens centre after concerns over breastfeeding.
Staff were friendly & helpful and the ward was clean. Unfortunately the food still is not great although the catering staff were very nice.
Everything is fine.
