My first appointment was changed at my request as we were away from home. A new appointment was rescheduled for the first day following our return. That was very impressive. I had feared a longer wait. The new Community unit near B and Q is well designed, airy and with huge screens, one with a picture of a Tudor building (Hereford?) and opposite, a more general picture of a woodland pathway. A relaxing place to sit whilst waiting. Check in was smooth for me, but not so good for a couple who had come with an elderly parent in a wheelchair and were upset to be told that despite her having a letter giving details of her appointment, she had not been entered on the system. MRI team were pleasant and reassuring. I was uncomfortable on the bed and someone came in to offer me a pillow rather than the plastic triangular knee support. This may have been a routine check, or possibly they had sensed my restlessness. The pillow was so much better. Despite the time pressures of a busy schedule, the staff were calm and encouraging.

  • I think the initial letter should say that normal clothing can be worn for the scan, so long as there are no metal parts, eg zips, buttons. I was expecting to have to change into a hospital gown, as mentioned on the MRGEN letter I received.(Dated June 2023, review 2025) Secondly, the form asks you what medication you are taking, but doesn't mention medication which is not advised. This is not an allergy but I have been advised not to use any aspirin, no ibuprofen, no warfarin (NSAIDS o rDOACs). In a medical emergency I don't know if this information clearly shown on my hospital discharge sheet (April 2024) would be taken into account.
