Absolute shocking!! Im not a patient but a family member of a patient, my sister (patient) has bi-polar and this is her 3rd admittance to a ward, twice in bury but this time she was moved to birch hill due to where she lived (as we've been told) and it has been an absolute shocker of a time while she's been in there, she may be in there on her own admittance but the staff allow her to roam the grounds and do as she pleases, whenever she wants. She's been out and about up to god knows what and the hospital have no idea and dont seem to be bothered as where or who she's with and its left to us to try and find her, when she has turned up at family members houses she had been threatening (threating to kill people) towards family if they challenge as to why she is out etc and if we try to speak to the ward we get no reassurance, she was admitted to bury the 1st 2 times and they were brilliant, they spotted her issues and problems straight away and dealt with them and kept us in the loop but "birch hill" have been Shambolic, how they can let a young woman go where she pleases when she clearly isnt in the right frame of mind baffles me, we've (family) have had to ring the police twice and also had to go and find her and take her back to the ward, once we've found were she is, we are doing their jobs for them, she is a danger to herself yet they cant see it. when we've spoke to them over the phone regarding her well being or where she is or how they are actioning how to get her back (yes were frustrated and upset) we get spoke to like a patient, told not to raise our voices and get angry, its now 12:32 am and a family member is out travelling to a night club to take her back to the ward. She is in the wards care yet we are the one's providing all the care and attention. I understand all the patients reviews on here but from our perspective its an absolute joke of a place, only last week there was a patient on the roof of the building and in a press statement Keith Walker, Executive Director of Operations for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust quotes “Our primary concern is ensuring the safety of this patient and the wellbeing of other patients on the unit; all efforts are currently focused on achieving this. Following the resolution of this incident, we will undertake a full review in line with Trust policies.” This was taken from the manchester evening news. I hope Mr Walker or anybody he knows well isn't admitted to this unit so he doesnt have to endure the pain and suffering we've had to deal with since our family member was put in there. I also hope this is read by many and somebody else speaks up about this place.
