Words cannot describe the shocking treatment received from various members of staff in CAMhs Ayrshire Central. I attended as the parent of my sixteen year old Autistic son. He had suffered with excruciating anxiety for two years. On his first appointment he was seen by Psychologist E B whom I now know shared with others that she did not believe the medical history of Meningitis and Cerebral Palsy as a baby. Claiming "this does not marry with case notes".portraying me as a liar,a fantasist and a crank. It took me eight traumatic months to obtain my sons casenotes from Yorkhill to prove the truth. On a subsequent appointment my son was seen by a Locum Psychiatrist , HG, who failed to document the extensive history I had given her and documented "not sure what's true and what's not". HG prescribed a drug with known side effects of Suicidal Ideation and attempted suicide, particularly in adolescents. This drug should be prescribed with cautition when other therapies and drugs have failed. This drug is not licences for 16 year olds in U.K. Shortly after prescribing this drug my son had two suicidal ideation type events. 2 psychiatrists, a staff nurse ,EO, and Occupational Therapist YA failed to recognise these side effects. The dose was doubled and increased again. They all shockingly accused me of causing my sons anxiety and suicidal ideation as I'd moved home. My son is Autistic and anxiety goes hand in hand. They failed to recognise his long standing anxiety as no one had documented it. They failed to recognise they had prescribed a drug then doubled the dose instead of stopping it. They failed to recognise that HG had documented that my son had "felt life wasn't worth living" before our move. Failed to recognise his great aunt had just passed away. I obtained an emergency appointment for my son when he displayed suicidal ideation and became tearful as I relayed the event, I now know that the Occupational Therapist YA documented that I "struggled with Capacity" "not sure what she understands" and that I was "erratic". I was sitting perfectly still in a chair relaying a traumatic event. I do not lack capacity. On another appointment my intelligent articulate son is described as "only understands simple language" and Staff Nurse EO brought out a large drawing Pad and felt pen and communicated by drawing pictures, my son is at college! He refused to see this nurse and the YA again, asking "why do they treat me like a dummy"? That makes two of us! The list is endless. I formally complained about the shocking behaviour and incompetence and not one of my valid concerns were addressed.I would advise any parent to seek help from an alternative health board .
