The nursing staff in this ward are very friendly, and professional and do their best for the patients in their care. I was placed in a 6-bed male sideward, and after a short-time all my fellow patients had been discharged. For some unknown reason, I was moved into a side ward on my own. It was a single-bedded ward. The lack of fellow male patients was keenly felt, as there was no one to talk to. When I was last in this ward in Aug/Sept ‘21, I was in this room due to Covid. I felt quite keenly then the same situation, but accepted it due to the pandemic Certainly the improvement of signal to my iPad and mobile phone in this side Ward made the stay more bearable than in 2021.

I have had several stays in hospital over the years due to various problems, unfortunately my last one at The Alexandra Redditch was by far the worst i have experienced. I had two nights when my catheter seperated due to the fact it had not been fitted together correctly, and waited nearly two hours before someone came to see what the bell was being pushed for, when the nurse saw the soaked bed sheets her attitude changed from being abrupt to one of accepting it was a genuine reason for calling her. Another night all the patients in the ward were told we would be moved early evening to anther ward due to some necessary cleaning work which was needed after some cable installation had been done, we were told at approx 9oclock it was too late to move us that night because of patient welfare, but we were actually moved at 11 45 that night, it was a complete and utter shambles with no-one knowing what was going on, the bag to my catheter was left behind so the draining device was just turned off, causing another wait for someone to come and see me ok for the night. After the operation i became constipated and was given tablets to rectify the problem unfortunately this did not work and after three days i was given an enema which i was told would work in about twenty to thirty minutes,it actually worked in about five minutes and no-one was available to take me to the toilet in time,i was left in the toilet to wash myself. I had to throw the soiled items of clothing in the waste disposal bin then wait for another pair of pyjamas so i could go back to the ward. I was told to take tablets i had no idea what they were but put that down to being my fault because i should have asked. The cleanliness of the ward was a disgrace, there were pieces of paper left on the floor, no furniture was moved to clean under it was just swept round it and there was a layer of dust almost everywhere you looked. I am sorry to send such a negative review i do wish it made better reading for you.

I can not speak highly enough of the staff at the Alex. From the Surgeon, Ward Doctors, Nurses, Care Assistants, Physio's and Cleaners. They were all very friendly and I felt very well looked after. I have praised them to my own GP surgery and Physio at Evesham Hospital. An amazing team of people.

The pre op care was brilliant. Couldn’t fault any of the staff who were amazing. The staff on the post op ward were variable. The night staff were wonderful but the day staff on ward 14 were dreadful. I could look after myself but other patients on the ward could not. The lady in the next bed had terminal lung cancer. She asked 5 times for help to get to the toilet but no one helped. She asked me to help her because she said “they’ll tell me off if I wet the bed”!!!!!!!!! I was really very sad for this lady. There was a lady in the bed opposite me who was asleep all the time. The nurses brought her food and drinks and said they would come and help her but nobody helped her except me!!!!! When her daughter came to visit the staff nurse lied and said she had drunk 3 cups of tea and eaten a little lunch but shehadn’t Eaten and she was diabetic! I said goodbye to her and she clung on to my hand because I was clearly the only person to show her any kindness! I have often wondered how many days either of these ladies survived. I told my daughters not to ever put me into the Alex hospital. I would rather die at home! These nurses were never busy nor overworked. They were chatting about a wedding that was taking place the following weekend and were laughing around the nursing station. It was ward 14 day staff. The night staff were great.
