I don't understand how NHS GPs can refuse prescriptions to NHS patients, but then tell them they can have the prescription for a private fee. If I did private work during hours I am contracted to work for my employer, I would be sacked. Or you get a nasty note from the GP with your prescription complaining about the cost of the medication. It makes you feel intimidated to ask for your prescriptions and you feel you are resented for your illness. They also flatly refuse to issue prescriptions for more than a couple of weeks at a time. They claim it is to prevent wastage, but this makes no sense. If you are on a medication for life then how can there be wastage? You get the feeling they want to make it as inconvenient as possible to discourage you from obtaining your prescriptions. While they appear to resent giving prescriptions that patients need, they pro-actively offer treatments that you don’t need, like flu jabs. I don't understand it. One GP wrote my consultant without copying me in, so I have no idea what is being discussed behind my back since I have been excluded from a discussion about my own health.
