I have only recently moved to this surgery and my first visit was to receive a flu jab. I arrived about 10 minutes before my appointment time and could get no further than the outer annex. The receptionist who was on the phone at the time, saw me arrive but did nothing to acknowledge my presence. A passing nurse opened the door and asked if she could help. I told her why I was there and saw a bottle of hand gel on the table in front of me (the dispenser outside was empty). I started to clean my hands when she (almost) shouted at me "please wait outside." The nurse apologised (kind of to us both) for letting me in. However, the receptionist gave no further instruction or indication as to how long I would be waiting and having waited 25 minutes, I could wait no longer and left to return to work.

Suggested improvements
Some training in 'people skills' wouldn't go amiss and perhaps a sign telling people what to do would help. Had a been an elderly patient attending for a flu jab, would I have been sent outside like a recalcitrant school child? Not a great first impression and possibly my last
