I came into the surgery on a Friday lunchtime. I had woken up with the poss beginning of cystitis. I was working until 1pm and it became obvious the infection was getting worse. I appreciate that the samples are sent off before a lunchtime but what is a patient to do when the pain changes from very mild to like a razor blade when urinating ? I knew I needed antibiotics. The receptionist couldn’t promise that anyone could either look at the sample or write a prescription if required. When I asked what I should do as it was a bank holiday weekend her answer was …. “ it’s been a bank holiday since I was a baby” she was very stressed and seemed unable to deal with both mine and the precious patients request. I started to tell her that I worked as a receptionist within the nhs and I understood that there were protocols etc Howe ever I was unable to finish as she barked at me “well you should know better than to come in at this time “. Having dealt with patients who are both stressed and in pain for over 20 years this was water off a ducks back. Eventually I received a phone call back from the wonderful Dr Roux who sent a script to Tesco for me. I think the partners should be aware that it is becoming stressful to even try to get an appointment sometimes. This is the first time I have ever encountered this sort of treatment as I think everyone else at the your practice is amazing but there are perhaps some people who would be better off behind the scenes as not everyone can cope with the very high pressures you come across on reception!! And if only the pharmacy in the town could dispense we wouldnt have to deal with the closures at Lloyd’s. I know it’s a staffing issue but seriously it is SO irritating to not be able to get your prescription due to them closing early ! Think that is it !!!

As above !!! Staff training to deal with stress and how to handle it. Illnesses do not appear to confine themselves to Monday to Friday and this is not the fault of the patients

I find the surgery very approachable and reactive to any concerns I may have, they and sensitive to my needs. It is very easy to make appointments using the text system for routine appointments saving both my time and that of the receptionist.

Suggested improvements
For a yearly diabetic check it would have been useful to be able to make both appointments at the same time using the text alert.
