For nearly two years I have required regular blood tests due to hospital infection MSSA, contracted during surgery at Southmead Feb 2013, I have found the Staff in the Treatment Room to be professional and accommodating, realising my attendance is not of my choosing and definitely not my fault.
Despite ongoing osteoarthritis, previous replacement hips and knees and the three recent corrective operations, high infections levels and urine problems, I have tried not to inconvenience GPs. However, since the New Appointment System has been introduced I find it almost impossible to classify my condition into the categories stipulated.
Furthermore, with numerous conditions of booking appointments, limited access to continuality of care from specific GP, along with some receptionist’s rigid interpretation of requirements, I believe appointments have become almost inaccessible.
I am 70, my mobility is poor at the moment, therefore feel extremely vulnerable, and I honestly am of the opinion I am a nuisance to the Medical profession.
My wife, who I rely heavily on for day to day living, has the same difficulty with this new appointment system, and inevitably will ignore medical problems, rather than have to run the gauntlet of the complex appointment structure
FOR QUITE A LONG TIME MY CATEGORISATION OF THE CARE DISPENSED BY THE DOCTORS IN THE PRACTICE WOULD BE MEDIOCRE TO POOR, HOWEVER, WITHIN THE LAST 4 MONTHS THERE HAS BEEN A MARKED IMPROVEMENT IN THE LEVELS OF INTEREST/CARE RECEIVED BY BOTH MY WIFE AND ME
Creaking at the seams!! Self booking system crashed twice, so had to book in via desk. So many people in waiting room felt bad about sitting when others that looked more needy could not get a chair, so stood up, but that's my fault for being caring.
I went to doctor after suggestion via pharmacist, re a high cholesterol reading, when i presented to doctor, i was almost dismissed, suggesting there is no point in pharmacy screen test, BUT AT LEAST AT THE PHARMACY THEY WERE INTERESTED!.
After getting agreement for cholesterol test (seems high sugar of no interest at all) Waited an hour for a 1min blood taken.
Made to feel like I was a burden. 62 years old, So 46 years of paying in NI and only visit once every 3-4 years, you would think they would be happy to see me being pro-active.....
Would the NHS rather deal with stroke/Heart attacks??? rather than preventative measures???
Have had a fantastic service since having a problem on 7th Jan 2015 from which I was admitted to hospital. The follow up appointments with the treatment room have been brilliant. The nurses are always so friendly and nice and helpful.
Well done .
when I get to see a doctor, or nurse, they are very caring and good. The real problem, as stated by many, is getting following appointment with the same doctor. booking appointments, if one is avalible, and repeat prescriptions via their web site is excellent.
