Written by a patient
12th April 2018

I have recently returned home for the Easter break from university and did not have a chance to pick up my medications before leaving my university city. I knew I would have to re-register here as a temporary patient and so I went in, in person and filled in a form, and watched while it was put onto the books (by two of the reception staff, as one didn't know how to use the computer?!) I then waited about a week and a half to make sure I was definitely on the system. I called on and off for 15 minutes once lines opened at 8:30am. Eventually when it got to 8:45am I was number 15 in the queue (this is a surgery that is taking on more patients?!). Eventually I managed to speak to a member of reception staff who claimed I wasn't on the system!!! She took all my details again and said a Dr would call me back "in the next two hours". Exactly two hours later I had a voicemail from the Dr who was incredibly irritated that she had been unable to reach me. I called again and left my house phone number so she could reach me. Some time later the Dr called me again, I apologised for the earlier problem which she did not at all acknowledge. The entire phone call was a disgrace to the medical profession. I have NEVER been spoken to so rudely by anyone, ever. She was short, dismissive, verging on aggressive, and completely unprofessional. I thanked her at the end of the phone call only to stop myself from losing my temper with her. I hung up and cried, because of how she had made me feel. Thank GOODNESS I am only a temporary patient because I will not be using them ever again. Such a shame. Imagine if I had been more vulnerable? Or worried about a health condition?
