This review is not for all doctors or receptionists. However why I was given a nurses appointment for at that time query Quinsy I am unclear. I specifically requested a face to face appointment as I felt my condition was severe and I was told by one receptionist to take a PCR test in order to come in. Once I received the negative results of my PCR test I called again and was only allowed a telephone consultation with the nurse and they would suggest whether a further consultation with the doctor would be necessary. I provided photos as requested. During the phone consultation the nurse prescribed antibiotics and suggested I only go to hospital if I was struggling to swallow my saliva or breathe. 2 days later my condition worsened and I was treated in hospital for Quinsy - the doctor in A&E confirmed that an abscess had already been formed on the day I provided photos to the surgery. A doctor at the surgery was not consulted. This is the second time I have been seriously ill and the surgery has not permitted face to face consultations, prescribing antibiotics without relevant and required testing to prove bacterial or viral infection. The last I was prescribed antibiotics only to find out in A&E it was glandular fever last year.

Suggested improvements
The surgery needs to consider there are other serious illnesses other than Covid and consider that some infections need to be dealt with on a face to face basis with further testing to avoid hospital admissions and antibiotic resistance. It is understood that covid is a risk but with preventative measures such as a recent PCR test and ventilated rooms (or even in the gazebo) appointments such as this should be made!
