The operation was done with spinal anaesthetic,my first experience of this. With previous surgeries I had full anaesthetics and my preference would still be one of these. Whilst my actual operation went 'like clockwork', immediately after the op I suffered from extreme pain unrelated to the surgery & whilst during the dayshift pain relief was good, during the night I often had to wait between 2 to 3 hours before top up pain relief was given. Mr Collier my surgeon had told me to ask for it before it got too bad,and I did! Also I would like to mention that the Flowtron cuffs were not reconnected automatically after disconnection & often it took a long time to find someone to do it. Although these statements seem negative, I am certain that once my prolonged recuperation is over and I can get out and about again, I will be very happy to have received this surgery.
