My partner saw 3 GP,s from the practice with rectal bleeding and not one of them referred him to hospital under the 2 week rule, bearing in mind he is over 70 and the symptoms. He was forced to seek a private consultation where rectal cancer, was diagnosed. He returned to the NHS,but treatment has been delayed although he has had various tests, and is to have more biopsies then treatment will be decided. The first consultation with the GP was in October 2015. It is now mid February 2016!!!Had he been referred when first seen we would have been well into treatment He is in alot of pain, has lost weight, apetite is poor. A letter of complaint has been sent to Practice Manager but we have yet to receive a reply. Why was he not referred,.when first seen?

Response from Guildhall Surgery

Dear Carer I am sorry you are unhappy with the care of your partner & whilst it is wholly inappropriate for me to discuss the details of a patient's care on this open forum, I would like to reassure you that our GP's work hard to ensure they follow clinical guidelines for the referral of their patients & certainly do refer under the 2 week rule any patients that fit the criteria. Any complaints that are received by the Practice are investigated by myself (Tina Byrne, Practice Manager) & the patient is always written to. I do keep a record, so I will send a further copy to the patient. If you wish to discuss this further, please do ask your partner to call me.
