I was recently put onto a long term drug treatment for a heart condition. The prescription note had a statement saying 'review date 31st October 2016'. I didn't understand what this meant, perhaps it was a note for the Pharmacy or the surgery. It was not explained to me that it was actually my review and that it is up to me to arrange a date for this. That's fine by me, I understand that the doctors/receptionists can't go chasing everyone to attend reviews, but why not advise patients that it is their responsibility to do this. All it takes is a single sentence on the prescription note to this effect and it would save a lot of confusion.

Response from Great Bentley Surgery

Thank you to taking the time to provide your feedback. There is a lot if information we would like to appear on prescriptions which would help both patients and the surgery. Unfortunately, our clinical computer system allows a very small amount of space for a message which we already fully utilise. This is the first time that this issue has been raised by any patient and we do usually stamp prescriptions with 'MEDICATION REVIEW DUE' a month before the date is due. Maybe this manual stamp was missed on this occassion? If that's the case, I apologise for the oversight. Just to let you know, we would never refuse to issue repeat medication if a review had not been completed before the due date, but would always allow a period of grace for patient's to make an appointment at a time convenient to them.
