This practice is usually a five star practice. The doctors are fantastic - they talk through their rational so that the patient can understand what's going on and the reception staff are friendly. On this occasion I was concerned by the infection control procedures and so wanted to give feedback about this.
Suggested improvements
The nurse who did my blood test didn't wear gloves because there were no more gloves in her room. I also didn't see her wash her hands- she did use alcohol gel. I'm not sure of the infection control process for a blood test but as an invasive procedure I would have thought hand washing and wearing gloves would be in line with policy. As a patient I didn't feel I was in the position to ask her to find some gloves or wash her hands. I think this really needs to be reviewed by the practice and to ensure infection control procedures are followed by staff rather than making patients feel unsure and unsafe and potentially causing an infection.
