As a patient of Drayton Medical Practice, I have also experienced a wait in the telephone queue, but when it is your turn, there will, too, be others waiting. It is just the way it is, particularly at the moment (in a pandemic at the time of writing). On the basis of this, I have always been grateful for receptionists’ time and for making it possible to have an appointment with the doctor or nurse. To other patients: have you considered that while you’re waiting in the telephone queue, the receptionists will invariably be busy helping others with an ever growing list of jobs, including booking appointments, dealing with repeat prescription requests (urgently when medication has run out) and other requests such as for sick notes, test results or copies of letters or medical records. This list is not exhaustive. The point is, the receptionist doesn’t just have to answer the telephone.
