A need for a repeat of a usual prescription for Shingles, Acyclovir, having come to the end of a box and another attack had started with all usual painful symptoms. Tried App first- The NHS app is limited to prescription requests only, and will not take any other requests. An email to the surgery with the request brought the email reply to phone the next day at 8am. Couldn't wait till next day so made a phone call that afternoon with a receptionist who said there was nothing on the notes, and to call the next day.The phone call next morning at 8am had an automatic reply of too busy, try later, after trying a bit later eventually got into a queue, then spoke to a receptionist, Dr called back some 3 hours later, confirmed request as normal, when going later in afternoon to pick up prescription, told they'd run out and it had to be ordered, hopefully for the next afternoon.... Dr agreed to a full blood screen, and that , thankfully was organised quickly in person at the surgery, and the Nurse seen was absolutely brilliant.

Suggested improvements
There are obviously many more people trying to access the surgery in Ninfield, and things naturally change.... But, the electronic systems supposedly backing up the surgery are not helping, they're too limited in adding information, and email conversation through different receptionists is impersonal and abrupt. The demography of the over 50's really needs the reassurance of a voice first, then a face to face with THEIR Doctor. I haven't seen a Doctor face to face for years..... there are things I really need to talk about, but I can't by App or email, or even on the phone with someone who I've never had contact with before. In these days when mental health has become an accepted reality, and something that people should be readily able to talk about: it's unfortunately easier for older people (over 50's,60's) to just not bother when confronted with such a difficult, impersonal system. The mantra for so many now is..."what's the point....". More in person communication with a regular Doctor please.
