The BIG problem with booking an appointment is their are NEVER any next day or same day appointments available. When i ring i am only offered care if there is a cancellation. Now i don't know if it just me but i only go to the doctors if i am really ill and need medical attention. Unfortunately my body does not book its illnesses in advance with me and often only tells me i am ill with a few hours notice! So ringing the doctors and been told the next available appointment is two weeks next Thursday is not a lot of good because i will be better or dead by then. I really really do not understand or appreciate the logic of every doctor in the surgery having a full appointment book EVERYDAY of the year. Why can a practise of 4 doctors plus, not take it in turns to rota a 1 hour free period everyday to deal with people that need immediate medical attention or have become ill in the night. I can guarantee that 1 hour space would be filled every single day of the year. I have never ever become so ill that i need a doctor and been able to wait two weeks for the first available appointment. so surely the majority of people in my community who work for a living paying taxes and of general good health have exactly the same problem when they become suddenly ill. Is it just me that feels this way??

Response from Buxton Medical Practice

The Practice runs an urgent triage system for all patients who cannot wait until the next available appointment. This means that a Nurse would ring you that day to assess your illness and if urgent you would be given an appointment that same day with either the GP or the Advanced Nurse Practitioner. We have had appointments within a few days or latest a week for a long time. However, if you want a specific GP this can take longer as we have to work with who we have available and the demand for their services. I am sorry if this was not made aware to you at the time.
