I am not able to phone in the window provided on the day for an appointment so I inevitably end up going to the surgery to make an appointment. Which is not always ideal. There may be no appointments left by the time I can get to the surgery. I also feel a lack of continuity of care because you constantly see a different doctor and are not easily able to choose who you would like to see. I would like to nominate my doctor and have the same or a nominated team of doctors that I see. This is no disrespect to ability etc. but people need to have a bond with their doctor and also, I feel that time is not best used for the doctor having to spend loads of time going through your records before you see them. To me this doesn't seem a very effective use of their valuable time. Finally, I feel that medical care is so reactive at the moment. To me it would be help to have a preventative check e.g. an annual medical which can be planned, is more likely to fit the time allocated, identify some illnesses earlier making treatment quicker and possibly more effective and would probably cut down on the reactive appointments that were booked. I further think it may be useful for papers / common areas of towns to 'advertise' illnesses currently in the area and what to do e.g. don't come for an antibiotic but rather go take pain relief and leave it for x days etc.
