A month or so ago I came for a smear. The eventual treatment I received by the nurse was fantastic but I very nearly didn't make an appointment as I was due on my period and the receptionist said I couldn't have one done if I was. Luckily I mentioned it to a nurse at another, non-related, appointment and she told me it was fine. The information is ridiculous.
