Having recently suffered a stroke my husband had a follow up appointment with the GP who issued a sick note to cover up until 30/11/17 telling us that when it ran out we had no need to see the doctor again but simply ring the surgery and a new one would be issued. A week before it ran out I called and requested a further note only to be told that the request had to be made on the day it ran out and not before. On the 30/11/17 I requested the note as instructed (we needed it to be sure my husband's employer would pay the SSP due for the following week). I visited the surgery 3 times and telephoned 4 before I was told that you had to request a sick note 48 hours prior to being able to collect it! Even though it was a lot longer than 48 hours the sick note was still not available. So which is it? Do I request it 48 hours before it is needed or do I have to wait until the day it runs out and expect it to be available on the same day? This is not an isolated incident at this practice it is the same with repeat prescriptions and it is not even worth trying to speak to the elusive Practice Manager, Amy Underwood who I am beginning to think is a fictional character conjured up by the reception staff!
