I turned up for my ulna nerve operation on Tuesday 29th August 2017 at 7:30am. I was seen by the surgeon who informed me that my operation might not happen as no one had cancelled, and a lot of operations needed to be done, which I accepted. The routine assessments were done, blood pressure, questions about my health etc. and also saw the anaesthetist. I changed into a gown and was put on a surgery bed and left in a room awaiting the surgery, at the time of 9:00am (circa) a glass of water was given to me and everything was going well. My feet are arthritic and were inflamed due to not being allowed to take any anti-inflammatory tablets 72 hours before the operation, nobody came in all day to see if everything was alright with my health, if I needed any help going to the toilet, If I needed another drink or informing me if my operation was going ahead, until I pressed the buzzer at 16:30pm (circa), then a member of the surgeons team came in to inform me that my operation had been cancelled. Unbelievable, surely the surgeons team had an idea that my operation would not be going ahead much earlier as they know how many operations they can get through in the day. My brief synopsis would say that : Time management and communications were extremely poor. This is a shame as I have had two knee replacements at this hospital, this year, and they gave a 5+ star service.
