Old Road Surgery

Old Road Surgery Failed Us I believe my wife's (Margaret age 88) current condition of terminal pancreatic cancer was missed a number of times by the old road (so called) medical practice. On three specific occasions, two of which should have been two week fast tracks were missed. One for breast cancer where I was told by an old road receptionist that it was only a day late' after I explained on the 15th day that Colchester hospital had never received the two week fast track. The other was when my wife was due to have a camera placed in her upper GI tract, this two week fast track eventually took 76 days to book a date for meeting with consultant. By which time my wife was hospitalised in severe pain and diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Third failure NHS 111 were called and we were assured that Old Rd practice would ensure that we would get a call from a doctor within 6hrs, this never happened only after persistent calls to NHS111 did we get a call (after an 8rh wait)and then a visit.

We spent 49 minutes waiting to get through to reception, were hung up on once, we needed a prescription for my partner who has serious medical conditions, whilst still waiting for the phone to be answered we drove to the surgery to be told it’s very difficult to answer the phones even though 4 of the 5 admin staff we not answering phones showing that our call was not important to them and neither is my partners health. We then had to wait another hour for our scheduled “emergency” appointment, and we are still waiting 45 minutes after the scheduled “emergency” appointment, this surgery is a joke and the receptionists and admin team need serious training with regards to their patients well being, hard earned tax money goes to paying these people and the standard of care is terrible and I could probably run a better surgery with a group of primary school children.

I have just taken my mother to see nurse greenwood who was just so kind and caring.we was on holiday and she looked after her leg ulcers and did a brilliant job in seeing to them such a lovely lady a credit to your surgery.we have never met such a kind and caring person.thank you very much.

I only use the surgery when it is absolutely necessary. I have never had a problem in obtaining a reasonable appointment time. In urgent cases I have always been found a 'slot'. A text reminder service started some while ago seems somewhat hit and miss and I now no longer receive SMS reminders.

I have been with Dr Mirza for forty years and up until I developed a cancer didn't see him more than twice a year. Dr Mirza and team always puts you at ease and I have every faith in him. He has always been good to talk to and always makes you feel reassured.

The doctors are all very good, the nurses are all- ways there with a cheerful face, answering questions if you need to ask, overall a very good family surgery.
