My mum has been going to the doctor regarding SEVERE weight loss, tiredness and blood in her stool. Every single time she has went, she has been given a STUDENT doctor that COMPLETELY fobs her off and gives her the usual stupid creams and tablets. Today she has been weighed (29/11/25 ) and has now lost almost a stone in three weeks. This has been a back and fourth carry on for months now. She is showing many signs of bowel cancer and not once have they even suggested this could be the case. This surgery is the biggest JOKE I have ever come across. It takes around a month to even get a phone call appointment and if you’re lucky enough to get a face to face, you’re always given a COMPLETELY incompetent doctor that refuses to look any deeper and will give you some useless cream or tablets EVERY SINGLE TIME. If something happens to her due to this absolute NEGLIGENCE, there will be big trouble.

This surgery has a very real issue with general administration regarding prescritions which are ordered on the patients behalf. All runs smoothly until a new drug needs to be added to the continuous prescription list. The surgery seems to think that the onus is on the patient to do all the work to ensure that the pharmacy are aware of the change. The pharmacy, quite rightly, dont want to do any chasing up as it is the responsibility of the medical centre, as issuing authority, to send the prescription to the pharmacy as soon a a decision is made to put the new medication on the patients continuous list. They seem to be incapable to doing this. When it comes to communicating with the practice, we find all the barriers associated with organisations that would rather not bother with patients with a problem. Besides a very poorly presented website, you are discouraged from using a simple email. This leaves econsult which is a bewildering mismash with inbuilt limits on what you can write.

I have registered with Old Machar over a year ago. Since it was during covid, I've never really seen anybody. When I write them an email, they either do not respond or ask me to fill in a form on e-consult, a really badly designed website which only allows you to select a few listed conditions and answer irrelevant questions. I have eventually received an appointment with a relevant department and they have prescribed me the relevant medication, but overall it seems that they are not very concerned about their patients and you don't even get a chance to contact a doctor directly. The doctor with whom I have the experience was eventually really helpful and friendly. Now they disabled the e-consult website over the weekend for no reason, so the only advantage of being able to complete requests in your own time is gone.

Not a review as such, but a suggestion. Not very nice to see receptionist, who is first point of call for the practice, chewing gum, with her mouth open.

I find the attitude over the phone by receptionist to be abysmal and was constantly talked over by her when I pointed out my prescription had gone missing and was asked by me to be issued a week ago. She blamed the pharmacy and became agitated when I told her my condition had deteriorated over the week and could not get out of the house now to collect another which would not be dealt with until the following day. Despite this she insisted there was no other solution and I should take it up with the pharmacy who she claimed had lost it. Under these circumstances I asked for a doctor`s visit which last time ended in me being hospitalised. Suddenly she advised she would phone the pharmacy with the prescription I could have collected that same day. Not the attitude I expect from a doctors surgery. Perhaps this female should consider another profession.

I am a exchange student so i had to register first time for a GP. They refused me service because i live in a certain area of town although they were neither busy nor was i living far away (15 min walk). They did not check if I need any urgent help. I cannot say anything about the doctors since i did not get pass the nurse but she was rude and unhelpful and seemed like she refused me service only to avoid filling out forms. That would already be inappropriate for any bureaucratic matter but it is simply ridiculous to potentially put my health at risk to avoid paperwork

I dont normally write reviews but as two members of my family have now been spoken to terribly I felt I had to. My son turned up for his appointment but there had a been a mix up with times and he missed it, well he said the way he got spoken to was really rude with the receptionist totally belittling him. He has anxiety problems and his appointment was in relation to this and it took courage for him to make an appointment in the first place. Staff training required asap as this is totally unacceptable.

The receptionists are as rude and as unhelpful as can be! The doctors are great but the nurse failed to take my blood correctly 3 times meaning I had to wait a prolonged period of time before a serious diagnosis. Hard to get an appointment and overall glad I’ve left!

This medical practice was a real find. I'm not a heavy user but every time I've needed to see the doctor I have managed to get a short notice (2 day) appointment and the reception staff couldn't be more helpful. The doctors are very good and I have not had any problems with this practice in the 10 years I've been registered there. Thank you and keep up the good work

This is a busy practice but you never feel rushed. The nursing team and receptionists are very professional. Very proactive providing information on any number of services in the Aberdeen area. Like most surgeries it is not always easy to get an appointment to suit.
