I woke up one morning but was in great pain and found it very difficult to get out of bed. I booked an appointment with my GP at my local Carcroft Surgery. The doctor immediately suspected Polymyalgia Rheumatica which is Rheumatic pain in the joints, mainly affecting the hips, neck and shoulders. I was asked to go back for blood tests which confirmed the Doctor's suspicions. I started to take Prednisolone and within days the pain had gone. I started on 30mg but after 12 months started to reduce the dosage. Apparently you're not supposed to stay on a high dose for as long as I did but I wasn't told to start reducing as soon as possible. It was only an appointment with a Rheumatologist at Doncaster Infirmary who advised me to start reducing the dosage. I did experience weight gain, bloated face and irritability - all of which are known side effects.
