A routine blood test 12 months after an oesophagectomy indicated an iron deficiency and low levels of vitamin D. I was advised that this is normal due to changes in the stomach's absorption ability, but a colonoscopy was recommended to check that no other problems were evident. Ferrous Sulphate (200mg twice a day) and a multivitamin (Sanatogen A-Z once a day) were prescribed. Within 2 months iron and vitamin D levels were back to normal. Still taking one multivitamin and one 200mg ferrous sulphate tablet a day.
