My mum has terminal cancer (in her salivary gland) she lives in pocklington but from York. She was sent to York by her gp with suspected sepsis on the Friday morning. She sat there for over 10 hours and was seen once with only a blood test.
They decided to leave as it was getting painful for my mum. They went back the Saturday morning and sat there from 10 am until I got there at 6 pm and she still hadn't been seen. Finally seen at midnight Saturday. The doctor and nurse asked her to stay but she didn't want to as she had enough of just sitting around. They got me into the the room to talk her into it as she would get a scan in the morning. She finally agreed. I left at 2am. Got a call at 10.30 the next morning. From my dad. I went back and my mum was dumped in a room in a crappy chair. No food barely anything to drink. They had refused to do the scan and left her. She was in a right state. She was finally seen at 3.30 and the consultant was argumentative and horrible. He said we were lying that she should have had a scan. So the doctor the night before was lying
' who knows. I told him to sort
discharge papers out as we had enough. He was god awful and didn't do it so I took my mum out side and stood by the desk and made them do it there. My mum was in so much pain and had the most god awful experience here I wouldn't wish on anyone one. They lie and leave you. And to leave a terminal cancer patient like that for 3 day is disgraceful. Thank god for castle hills where she is now. York is by far the worst hospital we've had to deal with. Including my birth experience and my kids at a&e. If I could rate it -50 I would
Very bad experience
My Consultant, theatre team, pain team and physios were excellent when I was admitted for a lengthy surgery. The standard of nursing care afterwards on the ward was very variable. A few were extremely good and I mentioned them in the feedback form I was given just before discharge but unfortunately there were others whose care was lacking. eg My bed was moved on the ward and I was left with no call bell I could reach twice and I wasn’t able to get out of bed at that point so I had to ask another patient to call a nurse for me and there was a Sister in charge of the ward for a shift who was obviously extremely stressed and let it show by snapping at patients and staff. I have previously worked on a paediatric ward so I understand clearly what is acceptable or not. It’s a shame as they let the great service of the NHS down. All in all my admission to York hospital had a very good outcome so I’m thankful for that.
My care was very good from the consultants , radiologist, theatre staff & ward staff
thank you
The whole team at York Nuffield put my care first and made me feel at ease, in theatre everyone including the anaesthetist were exceptional, they helped make me relax and the procedure went extremely well.
Only one negative was the lack of hand drying facilities in the bathroom connected to my room.
I was cared for at Nuffield, York. Everything was perfect.
The overall experience was excellent
Clean- helpful staff
I was on ward 16 following a fall at home.
I broke three ribs and punctured my lung.
Each and every staff member I came into contact with was very professional, obviously highly qualified and also, kind and considerate.
The NHS seems to get an enormous amount of “bad press” Nobody ever highlights the utterly fantastic care received by many, including me.
I wholly applaud everyone who works at York Hospital, especially those on ward 16.
all the staff that dealt with me were very helpful and courteous throughout my stay from the very helpful people in the kitchen to the night/ day nurses nothing was too much for them you just asked and if they could they got it for you
