Professor Ghanchi is a credit to his profession. I have seen many medical consultants in my life and, whilst they have all been very good and left me with little or no grounds for complaint, none of them come close to Professor Ghanchi in terms of the overall care provided. When it is borne in mind that, of all medical procedures, surgery on the eye under local anaesthetic is bound to result in an extremely high level of patient anxiety, Professor Ghanchi's gentle, polite, calm, sympathetic, skillful and thoroughly professional approach to the removal of cataracts in both my eyes engendered such trust and faith that I found myself able to relax completely during each operation. This was despite the first taking twice as long as the second because of a problem which, I was later advised, occurs in as few as 1 in 20 cases. The result is that my unaided distance vision is now almost perfect - not bad for a short-sighted person who has worn contact lenses or spectacles for the past 60 years! I should add that Professor Ghanchi also successfully removed a cataract from my mother's eye when she was in her mid-90s, having treated her for glaucoma for many years (during which time it barely worsened)! She thought he was wonderful! I should add that the whole set-up at The Lodge Eye Hospital at the Yorkshire Clinic in Bingley, where I was treated as an NHS patient, is absolutely first-class and the staff were as professional, friendly, re-assuring and caring as Proffesor Ghanchi. Long live the NHS!!
