I am writing this on behalf of my sister who went to Prof Ghanchi with macular degeneration and a cataract in her right eye which had rendered her virtually blind in that eye. In her left eye she also had a cataract which had rapidly got worse over the last few months. Since she was going virtually blind anyway and under great mental stress she was more than willing to seek a second opinion from Prof Ghanchi. She was immediately put at ease by his friendly welcome and calm professional manner. When he said he was more than willing to remove the cataract on her left eye she was absolutely over the moon! He had given her hope of regaining some of her sight where non seemed to exist. He was extremely confident it would be a success and even jokingly suggested she should have a party! The operation duly went ahead with great success and she has regained her sight in that eye. The clouds had truly parted for her. She cannot praise Prof Ghanchi too highly for his competence, his caring attitude and advice. The mental side of dealing with eye defects of nearly blind patients is something which I think cannot be over estimated. I thought was something that Prof Ghanchi fully demonstrated and showed great empathy with my sister. At her operation review meeting she was quite emotional and finished her thanks with simply saying ""top man, top job you have made my day" to which Prof Ghanchi replied sincerely to say she had made his day as well!
