I was under the care of Professor Veale for two extensive inpatient admissions, one of which was especially long due to the severity of my illnesses. I have always felt extremely well-looked after by Professor Veale, who always did his utmost to provide a very high standard of care, which he delivered. He is a highly compassionate, sensitive, caring, and dedicated psychiatrist. I have seen many over the past 8 years, throughout a combination of settings (acute inpatient, PICU, outpatient, including both NHS and private) and Professor Veale was by far the most effective in delivering the care that I needed, and actually going far, far beyond his 'duty' and Hippocratic oath! Professor Veale displayed extraordinary patience with me, and always fought for my best interests. He steadfastly and diligently persevered regardless of any difficulties or complications. His understanding of OCD and related disorders is second to none, and his dedication to his research only serves to enhance the care he delivers at a clinical level. He was always thorough in providing and explaining a proposed treatment plan or concept, and delivered a refreshingly honest viewpoint, with a great sense of humour, which was much needed. He is extremely knowledgable, however is not afraid to admit that he doesn't know everything, and would seek advice when necessary, which I greatly respect, as I knew that everything he said and did was in my best interests. He was comfortable with ambiguity, and with acknowledging the limits of his expertise. This is a quality that is very hard to come by! I wholeheartedly trust Professor Veale. He is highly skilled in treating both straightforward and complexity/co-morbidity; I have had to overcome some unimaginable challenges, and would frankly not have been able to do so without him. I would go so far as to say that he saved my life, and I would fervently recommend him to anyone.
