I’m writing this review exactly two weeks after a left inguinal laparoscopic hernia repair by Professor David Lloyd at Spire Leicester and am happy to say my recovery has been extremely positive so far! I’d been putting off the surgery for months as I was very anxious after reading all sorts of stories online. Professor Lloyd was very patient listening to my concerns and was quick to put me at ease by answering my (many) questions and explaining the complications I was worried about were extremely rare and unheard of in his vast experience of hernia surgery. He explained the procedure in detail, even drawing diagrams to make it easy to understand. The pre and post theatre staff were amazing, having a few jokes with me and making sure I was comfortable and relaxed. The surgery itself went very well and I was back in my room after an hour. There was only minor discomfort around the midriff but was easily managed with paracetamol for a few days after. The only real discomfort I had was two days later due to the gas build up and constipation but this only lasted a day after taking the stool softener supplied by the hospital. In hindsight I’d take it straight after surgery to get things moving quicker! Other than that apart from a little stiffness around the navel for a few days and the odd twinge around the inguinal area the recovery has been swift and pain-free and I’ve been moving around no problem. There has been minimal bruising, no swelling of the man bits and the small incisions have healed very quickly. I’m pretty fit and healthy but I was expecting the recovery to be a lot worse so I have to give huge credit to Professor Lloyd’s skills. I’d like to also mention the staff at Spire were nothing short of amazing. Everyone single person I encountered were so friendly and made me feel at ease which really does go a long way. I would have been happy to stay another night! I hope this review helps anyone else, who like me was extremely anxious about the surgery. I cannot recommend Professor Lloyd highly enough and would not hesitate to go through it again if I were to need surgery for another hernia in the future. JW
