15 years after a road traffic accident, I became breathless and in much pain in my chest. Having gone back and forth with gps and NHS consultants, with scans etc showing an elevated diaphragm - not one person had picked up a paralysed diaphragm and chilaiditi syndrom. All gave me ok and pain killers - surprised? Me neither. Thankfully in December 2017 my lure was about to change. I met Mr Anikin. A very humble, calm, and incredibly caring Surgeon. We sat and discussed his diagnoses and options. He explained in length what would and wouldn't happen if I left my condition without surgery. He was able to diagnose and pin point the seriousness of my collapsed lung and how to resolve. On January 7th I was admitted to Harefield, on 9th I was taking in for right thoracotomy surgery to plicate bowel and diaphragm, with Mr Anikin calmly explaining again what would happen before I was anesthetized. When I woke, that same face checked on me. Mr Anikin is the most professional, most caring and amazing of surgeons. I have had various operations over the years and never had my surgeon or his teams visit every day for three weeks day and night, always available to check on me. He changed my dressings on several occasions and even removed my chest drain himself! He is a true carer and the epitome of recovery. I would highly recommend Mr Anikin and his team (Mr James Barr, all the day and night nurses on Juniper Ward, Dee in Administration and Customer Care, the catering team Sue and Tracey and all) to anyone looking for a route to recovery. He is amazing, and very humble. Whatever you do, let him help you live your life the way you were meant to. Well. Even major lung surgery can be short term pain for longer term wellness - I'm 39 years old and because of Mr Anikin, will be kicking around with well behaving lungs for many many decades to come.
