I presented with a shattered right collar bone. I expressed to Toby my concerns regarding any risk of foreshortening the bone due to the bone loss in the break. I also discussed how to manage the fixation and what it meant for my sporting activities. Toby is an experienced sportsman himself and I immediately identified with his fabulous empathy and interest.
28 days after the surgery I was back in a 3 day bike race in the Dolomites, having managed very carefully to maintain some fitness in the intervening month, nearly all on a stationary indoor trainer. Toby cautiously guided how I might manage this so as not compromise the healing and repair.
He was an absolute delight to work with. The plate on my collar bone is very comfortable, the scar is absolutely minimal, and the function of my shoulder is fully restored.
