Mr Mansour visited me the day after I was admitted to the Glenfield and told me I was booked for the triple bypass procedure in two days time. He explained very thoroughly what would be involved, that it was a big operation and that recovery time would be considerable. I was concerned about the security of a signet ring which I wear, the original of which was given by my mother 51 years ago. I asked if I could keep the ring on during surgery and although he said it would depend on the decision of the anaesthetist - if permission was denied, he would keep the ring in his pocket and return it after the event! I was amazed at the kindness and consideration of such a busy person. In the event I was allowed to tape the ring to my finger! The operation was a success! The following day Mr Mansour visited me in ITU to check how I was feeling. These visits continued every day during my stay on the recovery ward. He also listened to my request for the steroid treatment I have taken for several years to be dispensed at the times I asked. He assured me that he and his team never “abandoned” former patients and that I would be able to contact him after I had left the hospital, if required. Mr Mansour is undoubtedly a “people person” who understands the worries and concerns patients have and is able to reassure them and explain things clearly and concisely. He obviously cares about his patients, has an incredible amount of patience and great humanity. I really feel it was a privilege to have been treated by him and the best quality experience I could have had in the circumstances. I was absolutely terrified of the procedure beforehand but with such an excellent doctor, I had nothing to worry about. I don’t have any constructive suggestions on how the care could be improved!
