Excellent organisation to outsource the op in order to shorten waiting time. Clear communication on the day so I knew what was going on. I was placed last to go to theatre, which I took as a compliment. I took no food from midnight before the op and no water from 5 am that morning. So I was very dehydrated by the time I came to theatre at around 4pm. Future arrangements should provide a drip to prevent dehydration for 'tail-enders' like me. They had trouble finding a vein in my hand for anaesthesia. No success with tapping my spinal fluid. So I ended up under general anaesthetic with longer time required for recovery. I received excellent support post op. My recovery was very good and I could leave hospital on the next day, having received crutches and physio advice. My scar is neat and tidy, medication was effective. By week eight/nine after the op I feel no pain and I am completely off the meds. Physio backup, initially at Morriston and then at Singleton, has been very good indeed. I am very pleased with my treatment. Thanks and congratulations to all staff especially Mr Masud.
