I am an NHS patient and I count myself most fortunate to have come under Sam Rajaratnam's care at the Horder Centre in Crowborough, East Sussex. I have had painful knees for a long time, at least a couple of years, and I went through the various hurdles that NHS patients must undergo before, at last, I was deemed in need of surgery. It was, as I have said, the greatest fortune to have been placed on Sam's list. I had an initial consultation with Sam at the beginning of September 2021 and a total knee replacement at the end of November the same year. Everything about the operation was absolutely top class: Sam wrote to my GP explaining that I wasn't forgotten when the lockdown was in full swing, the preparation for surgery, the ward staff, the anaesthetist, and the post operative care. And then, to my great delight, Sam arranged for me to be admitted in mid-July of this year to have my other knee replaced, again at the Horder Centre. It was a similar tale of superb surgical work, wonderful care pre and post operation and I now have two perfectly working knees. I should point out that there is a fair amount of pain and discomfort for the first few weeks but I see and feel improvements every day. Sam also telephoned six weeks after each operation. He is such a lovely man. I just wish he did feet too as I have very painful arthritis in my left foot. But if you are considering knee surgery, there can be no better, caring or skilful surgeon than Sam Rajaratnam.
