I was referred by my GP for fibroids. I presented with two large fibroids, these were discovered whilst I was being treated for cancer. Having had 6 operations as part of the cancer treatment I didn't want a hysterectomy. SB (saikat banerjee) was simply not interested in treating me, as my fibroids were large there would be a significant risk that any procedure may require an emergency hysterectomy. He referred me on to St. Mary's for magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound. When I attended the appointment at St Mary's I was told that my MRIs (taken at the clinic of SB) showed that I was not a suitable for the treatment he had referred me for. What am I to make of that? That SB didn't understand the details of the suggested treatment or that he just wanted me to move on from his clinic. I found the appointment with SB and his team rather unprofessional: he had an intern is his chamber that he couldn't even remember the name of. Also it seemed as though he was mocking me: he showed me the MRI images of my fibroids and said "how could you let this happen to yourself?!". Clearly not a shred of empathy. I reminded SB that the fibroids appeared to have developed whilst I was being treated for cancer.
