Written by a NHS patient

Mr El Ashry explained my treatment options well and took the time to answer my questions so that I could make the best choice. On the day of surgery he took great care of me, was calm and reassuring both before and afterwards. The physio commented on the neat stitching of the wound at a later appointment. The surgery has been very successful and I experienced no pain at any time, immediately after surgery or during the subsequent recovery and did not need to use any painkillers. It is now over 3 months since my procedure. One thing that was not quite clear for me was this. From my initial discussion with Mr El Ashry I understood that I could have a regional blocker instead of a general anaesthetic. However the anaesthetist on the day was not expecting that and did not seem at all keen for me to have the blocker. And I had a general. It wasn't a big problem to me. I didn't push for it against the anaesthetist preference, probably because I was being treated as an NHS patient. But the difference in approach between Mr El Ashry and the anaesthetist was a bit confusing. Thanks very much to everyone who helped look after me.
