I had the 2nd toe on my right foot straightened in June 2018 by and 2nd toe on my left foot August 2020 by Dr Freeman. My experiences were very different. I had a pin inserted into the toe on my left foot by Mrs Selth. This surgery was fine, but I had to have the pin in for 6 weeks and it took about 6 months before I was able to wear shoes due to the prolonged swelling. It was also very painful post surgery and I was instructed to walk the day after my surgery, and gradually increase the time over the first few days/weeks. I had to have the stitches removed the same time as the pin. Although my toe is now straight I can't bend it. Surgery on my left foot was completely different. Dr Freeman did not correct my hammer toe by inserting a pin. I didn't have any stitches and had little or no pain following the procedure. I was told to rest my foot as much as possible and there was very littles swelling of my foot. I was able to wear flat shoes 4 weeks post surgery at which time I returned to work (I am a teacher so I was walking around the school to teach my lessons due to Covid restrictions). I highly recommend this form of corrective surgery.
