Mr. Mallina explained the Bi Lateral Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel release procedure very well which was very reassuring. Being in the unique position of having one hand operated on using the Endoscopic release procedure and the other, which had to be completed with an open incision, I can honestly say that the Endoscopic release procedure was far superior in every way. I had much less pain in my left hand(which had the Endoscopic procedure). Within four or five days I was able to do far more with less pain than my right hand, which was much more painful due to the open incision. It has been eighteen days since my operation and I have almost full strength back in my left hand and the small scar has healed beautifully. I am still having some pain in my right hand as obviously the open incision has to heal and this is taking far longer than the Endoscopic procedure. I am having to massage the scar every day whereas my left hand is completely fine. The scar is still tender and it is taking me much longer to get back to full strength. Having experienced both types of procedure, I don't know why anyone would consider having an open incision for carpal tunnel rather than the far less painful, much quicker healing Endoscopic procedure. Based on my experience, I would happily encourage anyone needing an operation for Carpal Tunnel to have the Endoscopic procedure, as it is far less traumatic and so far for me, a much better and quicker outcome.
