I was transferred to Sandwell hospital with severe, unbearable abdominal pain. To cut a long story short, after scans and tests it was found that I had an extremely infected gall bladder and I was given the option to have it removed. Side effects and risks were made very clear by Dr Mankotia and he seemed very caring and concerned from the beginning. After my operation, I found out that the surgery was extremely complicated given that I have a lot of thick scar tissue as a result of previous abdominal surgeries. As a result, Dr Mankotia and his team were unable to perform keyhole surgery and instead had to perform an open surgery instead. Given the amount of scar tissue, I was told that the gall bladder was basically plastered down. However, they still managed to remove it carefully with no permanent damage. The after care from Dr Mankotia and his team was exceptional. They were extremely cautious about my recovery due to the complicated surgery and were very clear with all the nurses and any other attending doctors about the seriousness of looking after my drain and ensuring that it stays in until they were 100% sure that the bile had subsided and taken the correct path. Once I was discharged (with the drainage bag) , Dr Mankotia called to find out how I was getting on, and to update me as to the next steps of the process. Unfortunately my drainage bag ended up falling out while I was home and although I was quite panicked at the time, Dr Mankotia reassured me and arranged for me to have an urgent CT Scan and blood tests to ensure there was no bile leakage. He also explained ways in which I could have a drainage reinserted without surgery, if necessary. Again, this made me feel much more relaxed and reassured. Fortunately, the CT scans came back fine and upon my final meeting with Dr Mankotia, he ensured that I was OK and recovered before discharging me. Thank you so much to Dr Mankotia and his great team.
