I had TKR in March after years of Knee issues . I first saw Mr Heaton nearly 11 years ago and was advised then i would need TKR in the future, I put it off until i slipped and fell in September last year and was then advised to start proceedings . I saw Mr Heaton in October and he agreed my TKR was my only option and was put on the waiting list. I was given a date just before new year but this was cancelled ,it was then rescheduled for March at Grantham Hospital . I knew what to expect as Mr Heaton had discussed in detail prior to admission , but both he and the anaesthetist were very informative and made me feel at ease on the morning of the op . The op went very smoothly ( despite Mr Heaton saying it was not as straightforward as most ) and went home the day after the op . All staff at Grantham were superb and nothing was too much trouble for anyone . Although the operation went smoothly i have to say the pain after being at home for a couple of days was pain like I've never experienced before but the medication given soon had it under control . I am now 7 weeks post op and have just been discharged . No walking aids , no Knee pain for the first time in years and hopefully my recovery will continue to improve to a point where i can ride a bike again ( something i haven't done for the last 15 years )
