In July I started to experience post-menopausal bleeding, during a smear test I was told I had a vaginal wall polyp which may have been the cause. I spent the next few months waiting for appointments and after seeing two different gynaecologists I was eventually referred for an ultrasound scan which showed a further large uterine polyp. On 16.11.19 I received an appointment date for a hysteroscopy on 24.12.19. By this point I was still bleeding, had continual stomach pain and was suffering from an ulcerative colitis flare up which I couldn’t get under control. I decided I didn’t want to wait until Christmas Eve and started the BUPA process. I received a list of consultants in my local area and chose Mr Ghosh based on his level of experience. During my first consultation on 19.11.19 which took about an hour we talked about everything that was happening to me. He explained what it all meant and was very kind and reassuring. I felt such relief that someone was willing to listen to me and he prescribed some tablets which stopped the bleeding within days. My procedure was scheduled for 30.11.19 and Mr Ghosh came to speak to me beforehand to confirm exactly what would happen. The procedure I had was a hysteroscopy, endometrial polypectomy, endometrial curetting and removal of vaginal wall polyp under general anaesthetic. When I woke Mr Ghosh came to see me in the recovery room to explain that he had removed both polyps, taken some samples of the womb lining and that I had a bladder prolapse. I had been fitted with a catheter and packing which was quickly removed once I was fully awake. I was allowed home a few hours later but Mr Ghosh came to see me again before I left to make sure I was ok and to answer any questions I had. I must mention the team Mr Ghosh works with, they are very professional, friendly, understanding and truly care about how their patient feels; I knew I was always in safe hands. I did have some pain following the procedure but after a week this started to improve and the post-operative bleeding stopped. I returned for my results on 18.12.19 and everything was normal. I was delighted to tell Mr Ghosh that I felt better than I had for months. This has been my first experience of private healthcare and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. The whole process took just 29 days from start to finish and I will now be enjoying a pain and worry free Christmas with my family and friends.
