A brief summary of my personal experience following the reconstruction of my right knee chronic patellar tendon rupture. Following a bad fall whilst walking my dog, when my right foot was trapped in a muddy bank and I was thrown forward severely hyperextending my right knee, I had surgery on the 16th August 2020. As I was transferred to a bed in the recovery room for the first time in nearly a year, I was able to lift my leg. I was also able to leave the hospital the same day. I took Paracetamol for about a week and there has been little or no pain ever since. My leg was in a knee brace for 6 weeks gradually increasing the range of movement from 0°- 90° and undergoing physio. It was then removed. Now just 4 months after the operation I can walk well without a crutch or stick taking full length strides at a good pace. My knee now flexes to over 90°and I can walk upstairs normally, step overstep. It feels strong and can exert a lot of downward pressure. I can even ride a static bike and kick a ball for my dog. The degree of movement and strength is much more than I could ever have expected. With continued exercises I’m confident that it will continue to strengthen allowing me to do more and gain in confidence. I have nothing but praise for everyone who was involved from the pre-op, through the operation itself and post-operative care. The care I received was exemplary and the results have been great.
