I was told by a couple of doctors that the lump on my forearm was a harmless cyst but as it was getting larger and a little tender I decided I wanted it to be removed and I was referred to Mr Nick Saw. I had a consultation with him and he agreed to remove the lump and a date was fixed. I opted to have it removed under local anaesthetic, as it was a minor procedure. I was visit pre-op by Mr Saw and his anaesthetist and he was very reassuring and friendly. During the procedure the atmosphere was light with the friendly team making for a relaxed session. The sac was drained and removed and I was told it was normal procedure for this to be sent off for a biopsy. An appointment was made for the stitches to be removed and a follow up appointment with Mr Saw a couple of weeks later. I was a little concerned a few days after the procedure that there may be an infection in the wound and having rung Mr Saw's secretary she then spoke to Mr Saw and he arranged to see me a couple of hours later even though he had a day off. It was a false alarm but I was so grateful for his immediate reaction to my concerns. The following week I received a phone call from Mr Saw personally and immediately guessed that the biopsy had thrown up a problem. Mr Saw confirmed this and wanted to forewarn me that I would shortly receive a call from the hospital to arrange a blood test, an MRI scan on my arm and a full body CT scan. He assured me that the latter was to 'prove a negative'. These were carried out within a couple of days and he arranged an appointment with him to discuss the outcome and to remove my stitches at the same time. When I met with Mr Saw a few days later he patiently explained that a soft tissue sarcoma had been found in my forearm that would require a further operation to remove it and that it would be carried out elsewhere by a cancer specialist. Mr Saw also confirmed that the CT scan had 'proved the negative' and that the cancer had not spread from or to the rest of my body. Throughout my treatment by Mr Saw I found him extremely friendly, patient and reassuring. I am very grateful to Mr Saw and would have no hesitation in recommending him in the future.
