Michael Cronin operated on one of my hips in 2019. He carried out a minimally invasive hip replacement at a private hospital. The outcome was a complete success. I was pain free for the first time in years. During the first consultation to the last follow-up appointment, Mr Cronin was attentive, helpful and reassuring. I felt then that I would go back in the event that I ever required a further hip consultation. In December 2022 I reached the point whereby I needed to see Mr Cronin again about a problem in my other hip. I tried to contact his secretary via the email address provided on his website, which advertises his services. I did not receive a response. I then sent follow-up emails without any response forthcoming. I also tried telephoning the number provided. The phone was never answered, and my calls went straight to his secretary's voicemail, which invited me to leave a message or email. I never received a follow-up to any of the emails and calls that I made. In frustration, I finally called one of the NHS hospitals where Mr Cronin works, trying to see if his contact details had changed or if he was working at the time. They informed me that he was not currently working. Clearly that is a matter for Mr Cronin, but it really would be helpful for patients trying to contact him if they could receive an out-of-office reply or an answerphone message which explained that he was not currently available. I had great care from Mr Cronin, and if you can get to see him, and be treated by him, then I would recommend him for hip replacement surgery. But my recent experience relating to follow up and future care has been poor. Mr Cronin would have five stars throughout, but this recent failure of him/his secretary to respond to me as one of his patients has meant that I've felt it necessary to adjust his ratings.
