Mr Latimer is an exemplary surgeon and clinical teacher. As a fourth year medical student who had the privilege of working with his team as part of our university's MSK block, he instantly made me and my fellow students feel part of the team in a way we'd not experienced with any other department. He was incredibly encouraging and approachable - he didn't make us feel silly or put us down as is the case for other orthopaedic surgeons! He was inspiring in the way he had such a caring patient manner, taking time to make both students and patients feel important. Personally he has shown me great kindness and encouragement in my pursuit of a career in surgery. I had shown small interest in the beginning of the placement but he truly fostered that interest by getting me actively involved in theatres and has mentored and supported me since. More recently, he helped me to secure an elective placement in Edinburgh which I will be attending in March next year after my finals. My family and I are very grateful for Mr. Latimer's guidance and help and I consider myself very lucky to have crossed paths with him.
