I had a total hip replacement in July 2019 at Oaklands Hospital on the NHS. At my initial consultation, Mr Barkatali explained the procedure to me, in a clear, concise and reassuring way. He saw me pre op, instilling total confidence in me as I was understandable nervous undergoing an operation! He came to see me post op and reassured me that the operation had been a total success. I was in Oaklands for 2 nights after the operation and the staff, nurses and physios couldn't of been more caring and professional. On discharge I had 2 weekly visits to the Oaklands physiotherapy department who were excellent - extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the recovery process. I would say to anyone undergoing a total hip replacement to follow the physio as instructed and continue to do the daily exercises after they discharge you, to continue to build up strength and flexibility. I am now more than capable of going on a 3 mile walk unaided with no discomfort 10 weeks after surgery. I can't thank Mr Barkatali and the physios enough for the care they have taken of me.
