I had put off bunion surgery as I had been told it was very painful however over the last year it had become obvious that I needed to have it done and spoke to my Doctor about surgery. After an initial process of different consultations I met Mr Kumar Kunasingam. He explained the key hole surgery procedure and ensured I understood completely what would happen and my expected recovery rate. I went into Epsom hospital at 7am and was on my way home about 3pm, having already walked on the operated foot with the aid of crutches to help steady me for that day. From the next day I had no need of the crutches, following all instructions given as to rest, ice packs and painkillers when needed and had minimal pain. 5 weeks after surgery I met a lady who had also had Bunion surgery, however it was not keyhole, with a different surgeon and at a different hospital and our differences were amazing. I was in stretchy trainers and though walking carefully had no need for a walking aid. She however was in pain, had the surgical sandal and needed a walking stick and had a 4-5 inch scar which ran down the side of her foot with a light gauze pad covering it. In comparison I have 5 small scars that are healing and fading well. I feel very lucky that Mr Kunasingam was my consultant and performed keyhole surgery on my Bunion. I am now looking forward to having my other Bunion removed by him soon.
