I suffered a severe fracture of the radial bone at the elbow which left the head in three pieces and required an operation under general anaesthetic to screw the pieces back together. I was extremely fortunate to be placed in the care of Mr Deierl and from our very first meeting I just knew I was in good hands. The injury was caused while playing cricket and I explained to him how important golf and cricket were to me despite being in my seventies. He took my concerns very seriously and explained in detail how he proposed to repair the damage, the rehabilitation I would need and the likely prognosis for a return to sport. He was so confident and reassuring that my mind was completely put at ease. Following the operation he explained exactly what he had found and done to repair the damage and the future plan of action. Before the operation I was in considerable pain but following it barely any. Since being discharged from hospital I have had two follow up consultations and x-rays with Mr Deirel to check the progress of the healing. Once again he has been so considerate, informative and positive about my future return to sport which I am well on the way to achieving. He is extremely easy to talk to and allows you as much time as you need to ask questions or for explanations. I cannot thank him enough for the wonderful treatment and concern that he gave at what I thought would be a life changing event for the worse for me. He is a truly great professional surgeon.
